DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh you who are king of kings and lord of lords, we worship you. Before the Lord’s awe-inspiring throne we bow with sacred joy. Lord, let your kingdom come. Send forth your light and your truth. Chase the old dragon from his throne, with all his hellish crew. Oh, that the day might come when even upon earth the Son of the woman should rule the nations, not with a broken staff of wood but with an enduring scepter of iron, full of mercy but full of power, full of grace but irresistible. Oh, that that might soon come, the personal coming of our Lord! We long for the final triumph of his Word.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Timothy 1:17)

He is the King who always lives by his own power and is therefore able to give life to dead souls. Blessed be the name of the Savior who he died for sinners, but equally blessed be his name that he always lives to make intercession for sinners and is therefore able to save unto the uttermost them that come unto God by him (Hebrews 7:25). The quickened, raised-up spirit cries aloud, “Glory be unto the King immortal, for he has made me immortal by the touch of his life-giving hand!” Because he lives, we shall live also. Our life is hidden in him, and throughout eternity we shall reign with him.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Lisi of Chad.

According to the U.S. State Department, Chad is not a safe country to travel in “due to crime, terrorism, civil unrest, and kidnapping.” Missionaries need to go to the Lisi, but it will be dangerous.

Pray that God would protect missionaries going to the Lisi.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

My favorite new kids’ series keeps on cooking!

I’ve written before about how much my family has been loving a new series of Lift-the-Flap board books from The Good Book Company. The Training Young Hearts series by Abbey Wedgeworth encourages toddlers to use their bodies to serve others and honor God.

Each book focuses on a different body part and how we can use that to honor God. They all end by pointing kids to Jesus and showing how he perfectly honored God with his body so that we could be saved.

The books are really fun — my littles (7 months, 3 years, and 5 years) are HOOKED! I usually despise lift-the-flap books, because the flaps get ripped off in a few seconds. But Training Young Hearts books are so high quality and durable.

Recently, rhyming picture books have been added to the series that teach the same truths with a little more depth. The first one, Your Amazing Hands, was an instant hit for my kids, so I was really excited to receive a copy of the latest book in the series, Your Magnificent Mouth, and it doesn’t disappoint! I’m continually surprised at the relevance and biblical faithfulness of this series. I know you’ll love this series!
