DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We confess our many sins, with great self abhorrence and detestation of them. Lord, be pleased to forgive your servants in this thing and let us each this morning feel the application of the precious “which says better things than the blood of Abel” (Hebrews 12:24). May every child of God know now that he is clean through the washing of the blood. Oh, that we might be certain that no guilt is recorded against us now, for it is blotted out forever and the record is destroyed. Being justified by faith may we have peace, deep, lasting peace with God, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“... he saved us—not by works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy… so that, having been justified by his grace, we may become heirs with the hope of eternal life.” (Titus 3:5, 7)
See how closely Paul keeps to the doctrines of grace. He is never like Mr. Legality, he never teaches that we are to be saved by works; but, being saved by the grace of God alone, and being made heirs according to the hope of eternal life, we are then, out of gratitude to God, to abound in everything that is good, and holy, and kind, and after the mind of Christ.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Jat of Pakistan.
Pakistan is one of the worst countries in the world for the persecution of Christians. Blasphemy laws mean that conversion to Christ often results in death.
Pray that Jat would count the cost and know that Christ is worth it.

Good news for guilty people like us!
This week as we consider the beautiful reality of our justification, we’re forced to remember how guilty and sinful we are outside of Christ. Recently, I’ve been in a season of a lot of shame and guilt because of wrongdoing and failure and God has used a new book to really encourage me with grace.
If you have ever felt ashamed of your sinfulness and wondering if God really cares about you, you need to read Good News at Rock Bottom, a new book by Ray Ortlund.
This book applies the greatness and kindness of our gracious God to situations that make us feel hopeless — including guilt, betrayal, loneliness, and more.
I cannot stress enough how powerful this book has been for me. And I know it will encourage you too.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
“God does not see you as a sinner, for Christ has taken your sins into the land of forgetfulness.” — Charles Spurgeon
