DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Above all, blessed Jesus, our Redeemer, let your love for us fire us with love for you. Stamp your dear image on our hearts and let us never wander from the path of complete obedience to your will. Here we stand, asking to be washed again in the open fountain that every sin may be put away; but also begging to be washed in the water “from thy wounded side that flows,” that every wrong desire, every base aspiration, everything contrary to the mind of God may be utterly taken away from us. We beg for you to strengthen your servants for the battles of another year. Give us courage for all the trials. Give us grace for all the joys. Help us to be a holy and happy people! Let the redeemed of the Lord speak well of his name. Whatever our distress may be at times, may we still lift up notes of perpetual joy, glorying in the name of the Lord their God over all.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8)
We ought not, as men in Christ Jesus, to be carried away by a childish love of novelty, for we worship a God who is always the same, and of whose years there is no end. In some matters “the old is better.” There are certain things which are already so truly new, that to change them for anything else would be to lose old gold for new dross.
The old, old gospel is the newest thing in the world; in its very essence it is forever good news. In the things of God the old is always new, and if any man brings forward that which seems to be new doctrine and new truth, it is soon perceived that the new dogma is only worn-out heresy dexterously repaired, and discovery in theology is the digging up of a carcase of error which had better have been left to rot in oblivion. In the great matter of truth and godliness, we may safely say, “There is nothing new under the sun.”
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Abkhaz of Turkey.
There are other Abkhaz people in Russia and the Republic of Georgia. Perhaps God would lead some Abkhaz Christians from those nations to Turkey to spread the gospel.
Pray that God would send the gospel to the Abkhaz, by whatever means necessary.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Tomorrow is a new year — Parents, make the most of it.
We are raising kids in a world full of distractions. Distractions can make family discipleship challenging (it can be hard to imagine a world where our kids put down the screens and stop day-dreaming for long enough to have a meaningful conversation about Christ) — but these distractions also make family discipleship crucial.
With thousands of voices speaking into our kids lives every day, we need to make sure that they're hearing the truth from God's Word EVERY DAY.
Every December, I try to convince as many parents as possible to make one New Year's resolution — one goal for the New Year. I'm challenging you to read the Bible to your kids every day in 2026.
I can’t even begin to express how impactful this simple habit (10–15 minutes each day) will be on your kids (and their parents too 😉). God is at work through his Word, so let’s make his Word LOUD and prominent in our homes — louder than all the distractions!
I've put together some free resources to help you — including six steps to (actually) having family devotions every day and a printable habit tracker to help you reward success and build momentum. Check those resources out here.
Every Christian parent reading this (Yes, I'm talking about YOU!) CAN read the Bible to their kids every day in 2026. It is possible. You don't need any help that hasn't already been supplied to you by God the Holy Spirit. But if you want to make your time in the Word even more intentional, I hope you'll check out family devotionals God Centered Family.
These are biblical discussion guides that walk through the entire Bible, focused on Jesus. They only take 10 minutes each day, so they're realistic for the busiest families. They are interactive, so even the squirmiest kids will find themselves engaged.
FAITH’S CHECKBOOK
Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

“You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me up in glory.” (Psalm 73:24)
From day to day and from year to year, my faith believes in the wisdom and love of God, and I know that I shall not believe in vain. None of his good words have ever failed and I am sure that none will ever fall to the ground.
I put myself into his hand for guidance. I do not know the way that I should choose; the Lord shall choose my inheritance for me. I need counsel and advice, for my duties are difficult and I face many complicated situations. I look to the Lord, as the high priest of old looked to his urim and thummim. I prefer to seek the counsel of the infallible God over my own judgment or the advice of friends. Glorious Lord, you shall guide me!
Soon the end will come; a few more years, and I must depart out of this world to the Father. My Lord will be near my bed. He will meet me at heaven’s gate and he will welcome me to the land of glory. I shall not be a stranger in heaven, my own God and Father will receive me to its endless bliss.
All glory be to him who will guide me here and receive me hereafter. Amen.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling lost: The Lord will always guide you.
