I don’t deserve answered prayer, but Jesus does.

🛐 Daily Prayer: "We cannot expect this if we ask such a great blessing in our own name, but we ask it through the merits of Jesus Christ"

Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh God, our hearts are lifted up to you. We want to feel that you are here. We cannot expect this if we ask such a great blessing in our own name, but we ask it through the merits of Jesus Christ. Divine Savior, you have said, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Be here now. You have been pleased to give us your Holy Spirit to be the comforter who shall abide with us forever; may he abide with us today.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Whatever you ask in my name, I will do it so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.” (John 14:13)

Observe the breadth of prayer: “Whatever you ask.” Yet observe also the limit of prayer: “Whatever you ask in my name.” There are some things which we should not ask in Christ’s name, as we have no promise about them, or because we have indications that they would be contrary to God’s usual method of procedure. We must not ask, in the name of Christ, for what would be absurd or outrageous for us to expect God to grant, neither dare we use that sacred name in pleading for things which would only be for the satisfaction of our own will. We must let the will of God rise above all; but, subject to that will, we may ask anything in Christ’s name, and he will do it.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Bokoruge of Chad.

Christ has been established as “a light for the nations, that [God’s] salvation would reach to the end of the earth” (Isaiah 49:6). This light hasn’t reached the Bokoruge, who are still living in darkness.

Pray that the light of Christ would shine on the Bokoruge soon.
