Hope because Jesus is alive

🛐 Daily Prayer: "If Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead, we are preaching a falsehood. If he did not rise from the dead, you are believing a falsehood, and our preaching and your believing are nothing but vanity."

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

O God, we thank you that we have not been cast out. Blessed by your name. It is a work of divine power and love over human nature, for now we are the children of the promise, certainly not born according to the strength of the human will, or of blood, or of birth, but born by the Holy Spirit through the power of the Word, born again unto a living hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, children of the Great Father who is in heaven, having his life within us. Now, like Isaac, we are heirs according to promise and heirs of the promise, and we dwell at home in the Father’s house, and our soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and our mouth shall praise you as with joyful lips.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Now if Christ is proclaimed as raised from the dead, how can some of you say, ‘There is no resurrection of the dead’?” (1 Corinthians 15:12)

Had they got so far as that, to call themselves Christians, and yet they doubted the truth of the resurrection of the dead? Yes, they spirited it away, they made it into a kind of myth or fable; and yet they called themselves Christians. The heathen do not believe the resurrection, that is not surprising; but that those who professed to believe that Christ had risen from the dead, yet doubted the resurrection of his people, was indeed a strange thing.

If Jesus Christ did not rise from the dead, we are preaching a falsehood. If he did not rise from the dead, you are believing a falsehood, and our preaching and your believing are nothing but vanity.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Jesus Rose From the Dead. Depend On It.

Yesterday, I recommended a short booklet defending and explaining the resurrection of Christ. If you’re looking for a more robust resource, I recommend Did Jesus Really Rise From The Dead? A Surgeon-Scientist Examines The Evidence by Thomas Miller. This book (written by a medical doctor) unpacks and defends the resurrection of Jesus from a number of perspectives. Miller also does a great job of explaining why the death and resurrection of Jesus are such good news.

This book is a great, faith-strengthening resource that I know will bless you.
