Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We have no merit, no claim, no righteousness of our own. Dear savior, we look up to you. Oh, that some might look for the first time, and those of us that have long looked would fix our happy gaze again upon that blessed substitutionary sacrifice wherein is all our hope. Dear savior, we do take you to be everything to us, our sin-bearer and our sin-destroyer. We do not have a shadow of a shade of hope anywhere but in you, your life, your death, your resurrection, your ascension, your glory, your reign, your second advent; these are the only stars in our sky.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Be strong, and let your heart be courageous, all you who put your hope in the LORD.” (Psalm 31:24)

Every one of you, lift up your heads and sing for joy of heart. God is faithful, and does not fail even his little children who do but hope, wherefore then should we be afraid?

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Dabarre of Somalia.

We’re taught in Psalm 67:4 to pray, “Let the nations rejoice and shout for joy.” In the bleak landscape of Somalia, it might be hard to see a reason for the Dabarre nation to rejoice; but when the gospel finally reaches them, they will be full of undefeatable joy.

Pray that the gospel of peace will reach the Dabarre of Somalia for the first time.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

“For you are my hope, Lord GOD, my confidence from my youth. I have leaned on you from birth; you took me from my mother’s womb. My praise is always about you…. Don’t discard me in my old age. As my strength fails, do not abandon me.” (Psalm 71:5–6, 9)

Parents, we have a unique opportunity to address our kids in their “youth,” calling them to depend on God who alone can give them real hope. We’ve seen all of the ways God has provided for our kids, even when they were in the womb. We long for our kids to trust and treasure the God who has done so much for them.

And yet, it can be easy to forget that God is good to us, as parents, too. Psalm 71 reminds us that God is our confidence and strength in youth and old age.

As you call your kids to put their trust in God, remember how trustworthy he is for you. He is not the God of our children only, but he is fully dependable for our lives.
