Holy Spirit, rule over us with power

🛐 Daily Prayer: "Dwell with us Holy Spirit; rule over us Holy Spirit; transform us to your own likeness, oh Holy Spirit! Then shall we be clean; then shall we keep the law."

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Spirit of God, dwell in us. Is not this also a covenant promise, “I will put my Spirit within you, and I will make you to walk in my ways.” Dwell with us Holy Spirit; rule over us Holy Spirit; transform us to your own likeness, oh Holy Spirit! Then shall we be clean; then shall we keep the law.

We would offer a prayer to you for those who are quite strange to the work of the Spirit of God, who have never owned their God, who have lived as if there were no God. Open their eyes that they may see God even though that sight should make them tremble and wish to die.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar.” (Psalm 132:6)

David instituted a search for the ark. It had to be hunted for high and low. Rumors came that it was somewhere in the land of Ephraim, in a temporary lodging; rather an object of dread than of delight. Is it not wonderful that so renowned a symbol of the presence of the Lord should be lingering in neglect—a neglect so great that it was remarkable that we should have heard of its whereabouts at all? When a man begins to think upon God and his service it is comforting that the gospel is heard of.

Short devotions on who God is and what he is like

Today we prayed that we would know God truly and enjoy him with our whole hearts. This is an example of how we should approach the task of theology.

Theology isn’t supposed to be boring. It’s supposed to be a glorious adventure into the depths and wonders and riches of who God is and how he has worked in the world. When we think about theology, it should fill our hearts with awe and drive us to worship our great God.

The best books about theology help us along that journey — they cause us to love God more, rather than bore us or make our brains feel bigger. One book like that is Concise Theology by J.I. Packer.

Concise Theology is a collection of almost 100 short (3–4 page) explanations of crucial Christian doctrines. This book is approachable for any reader. It can be a great introduction to theology or a resource to help you teach theology to others.

When I read Concise Theology, my heart is filled with love for God and amazement at his works. I hope this book will help you worship him as well.
