DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lord save the careless, save the sinful, take away the cups of the drunkard. Deliver the holy and unjust ones from their filthiness. Renew the dishonest and false in their lives. Any who are lovers of pleasure, dead while they live, and any who are lovers of self, whose life is limited by the narrowness of their own being, renew them, regenerate them, make them new creatures in Christ Jesus. We fervently pray for this.
Truly, we ourselves are even sometimes subject to unbelief. If trials come which we did not expect, or if the body grows faint, we know that we are liable to begin to doubt the faithful promise and to grieve the Holy Spirit. Lord, we cannot bear this; we cannot bear this; it is not enough for us that our garments are clean and that we walk uprightly before others; we long to walk before you in such a way that there will be nothing to grieve your Spirit, nothing to vex the tender love of our Beloved. Come, Divine Spirit, and exercise your cleansing power upon us according to your promise, āI will cleanse Thy blood which I have not cleansed, saith the Lord, that dwelleth in Zion.ā
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āYou will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.ā (John 8:32)
Sincere belief in the word of Christ leads to emancipation from the tyrannical power of the evil that dwells in our members and from the dominating power of the sin that rules in the customs of the world. We will be free from our own prejudices, prides, and lusts. We will be free from the fear of others.
The truth known within our spirits will make us free. Up to now we may have been the bondsman of self. We have inquired, āWhat will this thing profit me?ā and thus the desire of self-aggrandizement has ruled everything, but when Jesus is our Lord, we will be free from this sordid motive.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Amat in India.
The Amat practice astrology and believe that the stars control their destiny. They do not know the God who made the stars and calls them by name.
Pray that the Amat would know the one true God who created the heavens.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
The power of Spurgeonās ministry in one series.*
Spurgeon went to be with the Lord nearly 150 years ago. Why is his ministry still so relevant and powerful today? Because he didnāt just preach about cultural issues or moral commands, he brought his hearers all the way to the cross and empty tomb.
Spurgeonās insight into the Bible is monumental, but accessing it can be a little intimidating (I have 162 books by Spurgeon in my libraryā¦). And thatās why the Spurgeon Commentary Series is so helpful. This series takes all of Spurgeonās best teachings on a given book of Scripture and arranges them in a verse-by-verse, phrase-by-phrase commentary format.
If you want to see Jesus moreā¦
If you want to make your personal Bible study more preciousā¦
If you want to understand and apply the Bible in new ways (that are old and faithful ways!)ā¦
Then check out the Spurgeon Commentary Series.
SEVEN volumes are available now (including the newest book on the Song of Songs and Jonah!), covering books in the New Testament and the Old Testament. Every single one of them is packed with biblical insight and centered on Jesus.
FAITHāS CHECKBOOK
Spurgeonās classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

āHe fulfills the desires of those who fear him; he hears their cry for help and saves them.ā (Psalm 145:19)
His own Spirit has given this desire to us and therefore he will answer it. It is his own life within us which prompts the cry, and therefore he will hear it. Those who fear God are people under the holiest influence and, therefore, their desire is to glorify God and enjoy him forever. Like Daniel, the Lord will cause their aspirations to come to fruition
Holy desires are grace in the stalk and the heavenly farmer will cultivate them until they grow into a full ear of corn. God-fearing people desire to be holy, to be useful, to be a blessing to others, and to honor their Lord in these ways. They desire supplies for their need, help under burdens, guidance in perplexity, deliverance in distress; and sometimes this desire is so strong, and their case so pressing, that they cry out in agony, like little children in pain, and then the Lord works most comprehensively, and does all that is needed. āHe hears their cry for help and saves them.ā
Yes, if we fear God, we have nothing else to fear; if we cry to the Lord, our salvation is certain.
Let the reader lay this text on his tongue and keep it in his mouth all day. It will be sweeter than honey.
Something to think about today if youāre feeling hopeful about the future: God hears your prayers and will answer them.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
āThere are many sleepy pastors who will not tell the truth for fear of hurting your feelings.ā ā Charles Spurgeon
