DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Help everyone here to make an acceptable confession of sin, with much mourning, with much deep regret, with much self-loathing, and with the absence of anything like a pretense of merit or excuse. Here we stand, Lord, a company of tax collectors and sinners with whom Jesus condescends to sit down with. Heal us, Immanuel! Here we are, needing that healing. Good Physician, here is work for you; come and manifest your healing power!
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, but worldly grief produces death.” (2 Corinthians 7:10)
Genuine spiritual mourning for sin is the work of the Spirit of God. Repentance is too great a flower to grow in nature’s garden. Pearls grow naturally in oysters, but repentance never shows itself in sinners unless divine grace works it in them. If you have one particle of real hatred for sin, God must have given it to you, for human nature’s thorns never produced a single fig. “That which is born of the flesh is flesh.”
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Maba of Indonesia.
The Maba are farmers. January is the middle of the crucial “wet season” for Indonesia when rains will enable them to grow their crops.
Pray that God would send rain for the Maba.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
A powerful new resource by Spurgeon*
The resurrection of Jesus isn’t just good news for Easter — it’s good news for every day that Jesus is seated on the throne (which is every day! 🙌). Easter is just an annual reminder that the resurrection of Jesus is the center of our faith.
This year, I’m looking forward to preparing for Easter by using a NEW devotional by Spurgeon — The Risen King. This 40-day journey through the life of Jesus features a simple reading from the life of Jesus (with incredible teaching from Spurgeon) each day. It all leads to the empty tomb and the celebration of new life in the risen Lord Jesus!
This devotional is challenging, comforting, and convicting all at once. (J.A. Medders did a fantastic job collecting some of the greatest Spurgeon excerpts available.)
Each day’s reading ends with a simple reflection point and a prompt for prayer. These really help bring the teaching home.
This month only, The Risen King is available for 25% off for Pray with Spurgeon subscribers.
If you order your copy at the link in my bio using code SPURGEON, you’ll save on the book and get the ebook for free.
Grab a copy for yourself to better enjoy Easter this year and another one for a friend to help inspire greater faith this year.
