DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

It is of your grace that we were ever brought to know you. Had we been left to ourselves, we should have wandered on, and have remained in darkness until this day; but blessed be your name, oh God of all grace, you have revealed yourself to us, you hast brought your life to our death, and made us alive in you; you have brought your light to our blindness, and made us to behold you; and now, you are not only the greatest source of joy to our spirit, but you are all our joy—we have none apart from you.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“
they are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:24)

The term redemption means a price is to be paid—something needs to be redeemed. There is an intervening suffering and an intervening obedience. We are not justified freely without redemption, nor are we justified by his grace without the intervention of the atoning sacrifice. Oh, how people labor to get rid of this! This doctrine of substitution is the soul, head, foundation, and cornerstone of the entire gospel. If it is left out, then the gospel preached is another gospel.

Praying with our kids to the God of all grace

Homeschool parents, as you plan your new school year, have you sought the Lord’s guidance? We shouldn’t just plan and toil and schedule for our families — we need to pray!

Related question, if you are homeschooling this year, how will you pray WITH your kids? I recommend starting each day in prayer and Bible reading together. (What could possibly lay a better foundation for your kids each day than looking at God in his Word and speaking to him in prayer?)

If you’re looking for guides/curriculum to help make your homeschool time in God’s Word intentional, I hope you’ll check out my family devotionals — God Centered Family.

These devotionals walk through EVERY chapter of Scripture (not just the popular stories) and they only take ten minutes each day (so they are easy to fit into any homeschool day).

Interactive resources are included for each age group to help every child learn to HEAR God’s Word (not just sit through it while they daydream).

Reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic are important things to teach your kids, but don’t neglect to teach them about Redemption. Get everything you need from God Centered Family.
