DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
You have chosen us from before the foundation of the world, and this well-head of mercy sends forth streams of lovingkindness never ceasing. Because we were chosen we have been redeemed with precious blood. Bless the Lord! And we have been called by the Holy Spirit out of the world, and we have been led to obey that wondrous call which has quickened us and renewed us, and made us the people of God, given us adoption into the Divine Family. Bless the Lord!
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“When the time came to completion, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.” (Galatians 4:4–5)
The Mosaic law of rites and ceremonies was only a temporary arrangement. Now the church has come into possession of liberty in the truth and rejoices in the free grace of the gospel. It would be ridiculous for a full-grown heir to go to school again or continue under guardians, and so it is absurd to return to the service of forms and rituals, which are too childish for men in Christ Jesus. As the Roman youth when he came of age put on the toga and was admitted to the rights of citizenship, so the putting on of Christ is the token of our admission into the position of sons of God. Every blessing of the covenant of grace belongs to those who are Christ’s, and every believer is in that list. Thus we receive adoption by faith as the gift of grace.

Challenge for homeschooling parents
This month, I’m challenging HOMESCHOOL parents to begin every day of the new school year with family Bible reading and prayer. Can you imagine how beneficial that would be for your kids (and you?!)
Some of the benefits you’ll find if you begin your school day in the Word and in prayer:
Your kids will learn the Bible! (The most important thing they’ll learn that day, in my opinion!)
It will set the tone for the day (An encounter with God’s grace will help us extend grace to one another)
It dedicates our day to God (As we pray, asking him to help us with our school day)
… and so much more!
I’ve been working on a series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, and I love hearing from parents using these devotionals to start their day or as a homeschool Bible curriculum.
