DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
God, it is only your responsibility to convince your people, and to convert them, so that truth shall be in their hearts a deep conviction and comfort shall rise into delight. But we want to see your power upon the unconverted. Oh come, sweet Spirit, to take away the heart of stone out of men’s flesh, and give them the heart of flesh. Now the stone to flesh convert! Let the stubborn accept their Lord, the prejudiced, the strong-willed, be subdued to the sweet scepter of divine love. We want to see churches built up and increased with the increase of God. Multiply us with men as with a flock and let every scatterer of the good seed reap a hundredfold harvest.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Do not harden your hearts as at Meribah, as on that day at Massah in the wilderness.” (Psalm 95:8)
We cannot soften our hearts but we can harden them and the consequences will be fatal. Today is too good a day to be profaned by the hardening of our hearts. While mercy reigns, let not obstinance rebel.
Do not be willfully, repeatedly, obstinately rebellious. Let the example of that unhappy generation serve as a beacon to you; do not repeat the offences which have already more than enough provoked the Lord. Do not seek to turn aside the edge of the warning; thou hast good need of it, give good heed to it.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Odienne Jula in Côte d'Ivoire.
God has promised that, on the last day, “Many nations will join themselves to the LORD on that day and become my people” (Zechariah 2:2). The Odienne Jula have not been joined to the Lord and have no way of knowing him unless someone tells them.
Pray that God would receive the glory he deserves from the Odienne Jula.
