God, see us in our sickness

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, look upon these people for good. You know the troubles of every burdened spirit. You know how some of those whom you love are sick; how others have to watch over their dearest ones fading away, and withering like flowers. Lord, send comfort to the saints in trouble.

Are your dear children poor, or are they sick in body, or are they losing those they love, or is there yet a newly dug grave over which they could shed floods of tears? Oh, sweet love of God, comfort them. Cover all the rocks, oh mighty tide of everlasting love, until not a rock is seen; and on that glassy sea may our spirits float above the rocks, which otherwise had wrecked our lives. We do pray that you would give us comfort, but also give us strength as well as consolation.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“… none there will say, ‘I am sick.’ The people who dwell there will be forgiven their iniquity.” (Isaiah 33:24)

Sin had made these people sick. But when iniquity is forgiven, then “the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick.” Special chastisement is usually removed when any peculiar sin is forgiven. God, under a former age, very manifestly visited sin with chastisement in this life; and when he forgave it, he removed the weight of his hand from the offender. In the case of believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, if some of the temporal results of sin do not cease, they remain for other purposes, good and useful, and not as wrathful inflictions.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Rind of Pakistan.

The Rind live in mountainous regions isolated from other peoples. This will be a challenging place for missionaries to reach and live, but there is no other way for them to be saved.

Pray that God would give endurance to missionaries among the Rind.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Freedom from sexual sin (and the shame that comes with it)*

Sin is terrible but we don’t need to live in our shame; Jesus came to set us free. No matter what sin you’re struggling with, God has not left you to figure it out on your own. His merciful, transforming love is at work to bring you out of sin with his tender hand.

Unfortunately, Christian women often allow shame to prevent them from dealing with sin openly and honestly. That’s why we need grace-saturated resources that can help us remember God’s love and seek change in light of it.

That’s the point of a new (FREE) video course from my friends at Harvest USA, “Transforming Love.” This six session course unpacks a fully-formed, biblical picture of where sexual sin comes from so that you can seek long-term change and purity by grace.

Here’s three ways you could use this course:

  • On Your Own — Dive deep into God’s grace and seek real change.

  • One-on-One — Help others see God’s plan for purity and cultivate real accountability.

  • In a Group — Use the free participant’s guide to launch honest discussion and personal application.

The six 30-minute video sessions are packed with biblical insight and clear application. This course is a valuable tool in your battle for purity.

I can’t wait to hear about how God uses it in your life.
