DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord God, the fountain of all fullness, we, who are nothing but emptiness, come to you for all supplies, nor shall we come in vain, since we bear with us a plea which is all-prevailing. Since we come commanded by your Word, encouraged by your promise, and preceded by Christ Jesus, our great High Priest, we know that whatsoever we shall ask in prayer, believing, we shall receive. Help us now to ask right things and may the utterances of our mouth be acceptable in your sight, oh God our strength and our redeemer.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“The LORD your God will circumcise your heart and the hearts of your descendants, and you will love him with all your heart and all your soul so that you will live.” (Deuteronomy 30:6)

Here we read a promise of true circumcision. Note the author of it: “The Lord your God.” He alone can deal effectually with our heart and take away its carnality and pollution. To make us love God with all our heart and soul is a miracle of grace which only the Holy Spirit can work. We must look to the Lord alone for this, and never be satisfied with anything short of it.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Micha of China.

When the message of the cross reaches all peoples, “All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD. All the families of the nations will bow down before you…” (Psalm 22:27). This message has never reached the Micha.

Pray that the Micha would hear about what Jesus has done to save them.

TOMORROW IN THE WEEKEND EDITION

Each Saturday, I send a bonus email to Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers. Here’s what to look forward to in tomorrow’s email:

  • Prayer for the Church — Prepare for Sunday with this prayer for the worship service

  • Q&A with Spurgeon — Can we know when Jesus will return? What should we think about end-time prophets?

  • Spurgeon’s Letters — A letter that Spurgeon sent to students at his Pastor’s College when illness kept him from teaching classes.

Don’t miss the Weekend Edition — subscribe to Pray with Spurgeon Plus so that I can continue sending this email for years to come.
