DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Dear Savior, you know the unique trials and conditions of all of your people; and, we pray, deal with each child of yours according to his special need. Great Physician, walk this hospital. Come and look on each special case; and may there be a masterpiece of your heavenly surgery for each one of us.
Many of us need comfort; our heart is cast down within us. There are many of your saints, in whose soul “deep calls to deep in the roar of your waterfalls” (Psalm 42:7). Command your loving kindness this morning and let your song be with us at this moment. May we ascend up from the darkness into the eternal light. May the sun of your love shine on us until our faces shall be bright like the face of Moses!
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“And why do you worry about clothes? Observe how the wildflowers of the field grow: They don’t labor or spin thread. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was adorned like one of these. If that’s how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and thrown into the furnace tomorrow, won’t he do much more for you—you of little faith?” (Matthew 6:28–30)
It is not merely that wildflowers grow, but that God himself clothes them with surpassing beauty. These wildflowers, when growing, appear only as the grass, commonplace enough; but Solomon could not excel them when God has put them in their full array of golden cloth. Will he not be sure to take care of us who are precious in his sight? If that which is so very short-lived is yet so adorned by the Lord, depend on it, he will guard immortal minds, and even the mortal bodies with which they are associated.
“Little faith” is not a little fault; for it greatly wrongs the Lord and sadly grieves the fretful mind. To think the Lord who clothes lilies will leave his own children naked is shameful. You of little faith, learn better manners!
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Bushi of Mayotte.
Mayotte, as an island, faces some serious problems, including high poverty, inadequate access to water, housing shortages, and high crime. May Christians come with solutions for these problems, and the people’s greatest problem.
Pray that missionaries would go to Mayotte.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Two things every sexual sinner needs*
Over the last few weeks, I’ve been sharing about a new book, You Are Not Alone by Molly Bertles. This book, for women struggling with masturbation, is packed to the brim with wisdom.
There’s two reasons I love this book:
It is thoroughly biblical — it calls sin what it is, it makes clear that Jesus is our only hope for change.
It is thoroughly practical — it doesn’t just tell you to “stop it,” it gives tangible steps that you can take.
This is an invaluable resource that any woman struggling with sexual temptation (AND the leaders who help them!) will want to pick up a copy today.
