Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks

Thanks for praying with us this week. We’ll be back on Monday.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Great Shepherd of the sheep, gather the lambs within your arm; find the lost sheep, throw them on your shoulders, and bring them home rejoicing. We ask that everywhere there may be great numbers added to the church, you brought in five thousand so soon in Acts, please bring in five thousand in many and many places. We read the statistics of your church with great sorrow; how small an increase! Lord multiply us with men as you would multiply a flock; increase the people and increase the joy. Help us to rejoice before you with the joy of harvest.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“So he told them this parable: ‘What man among you, who has a hundred sheep and loses one of them, does not leave the ninety-nine in the open field and go after the lost one until he finds it?’” (Luke 15:3–4)

The wandering of a soul causes Jesus deep sorrow. He cannot bear the thought of one perishing. Such is the love and tenderness of his heart that he cannot bear that one of his own should be in jeopardy. He can take no rest as long as a soul for whom he shed his blood still abides under the dominion of Satan and under the power of sin. Therefore the great Shepherd neither night nor day forgets his sheep.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Zaghawa of Chad.

After Jesus rose, he said that “repentance for forgiveness of sins will be proclaimed in his name to all the nations” (Luke 24:47), but repentance for forgiveness of sins has never been proclaimed to the Zaghawa.

Pray that the gospel would finally reach the Zaghawa.
