DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
God, it may be true that you have appointed for us great torrents of tribulation, but you will be with us if we pass through the river. Perhaps you will permit us to go through blazing fires of persecution or temptation, but we shall not be burned; for you have assured us it shall be so, that we shall go through the fires unhurt, since you will be with us.
Perhaps it is written in the tablets of your eternal purpose that we shall soon end this mortal life and die. It will be well, for we shall see your face and drink eternal bliss sooner. But if you have appointed for us gray hairs, only grant us grace that, by infirmity, our faith may never fail us; but when the windows are darkened, may we still look out to see the hope that is to be revealed; and when the grasshopper becomes a burden (Ecclesiastes 12:5), still let our strength be as our days, even to the last day.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âYou will have suffering in this world. Be courageous! I have conquered the world.â (John 16:33)
Are you asking the reason for your suffering, believer? Look upward to your heavenly Father, and behold him pure and holy. Do you know that you will one day be like him? Will you be conformed to his image easily? Will you not require much refining in the furnace of affliction to purify you? Will it be an easy thing to get rid of your corruptions, and make you perfect even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect?
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Kibet of Chad.
The Kibet are subsistence farmers living off of the food they are able to grow themselves. Droughts make their life difficult.
Pray that God would send rain and provide for the Kibet.

REAL hope for suffering people*
Many donât know that Spurgeon grappled with debilitating depression for most of his adult life. And God was at work through it all. In the crucible of suffering, Spurgeon learned a lot of wisdom through the tender care of Jesus.
During his own life, he shared that wisdom with people in his church and city. And even now, more than 100 years after his death, his teaching on suffering is still valuable
Some of his BEST reflections on Godâs grace in our pain have been compiled by Spurgeon scholar Geoffrey Chang into a new devotional, Your Only Comfort.
This book is a 30-day journey into the heart of Jesus for sufferers. Each day, youâll find a short passage of Scripture and a bite-sized reflection by Spurgeon. I hope youâll buy a copy to experience Godâs grace in your suffering and another copy to share with a friend.
FAITHâS CHECKBOOK
Spurgeonâs classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

âYou will be blessed when you come in and blessed when you go out.â (Deuteronomy 28:6)
The blessings of the law are not cancelled. Jesus confirmed the promise when he bore the penalty. If I keep the commands of my Lord, I may appropriate this promise without question.
Today I can come into my house without fear of evil tidings and I will expect to hear good news from my Lord. I will not be afraid to âcome inâ to my own soul with self-examination. I have a good deal of work to do âindoorsâ within my own soul. There is a blessing upon all of this work: the blessing of the Lord Jesus who has promised to remain with me.
I must also go out. Timidity makes me wish that I could stay within doors and never go into the sinful world again. But I must go out in my calling, and I must go out so that I may be helpful to other Christians and useful to the ungodly. I must be a defender of the faith and an attacker of evil.
Lord, bless my going out today. Let me go where you lead, on your errands, and in the power of your Spirit. Lord Jesus, turn in with me and be my guest; then walk out with me and cause my heart to burn while you speak with me on the road.
Something to think about today if youâre feeling worried about what God is calling you to do: Jesus is with you every moment.
