God is wiser than the world

🛐 Daily Prayer: "We still are so weak, so foolish; but, oh, when we get away from self to God there all is truth and purity and holiness."

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We have to battle with the sons of men against a thousand errors and unrighteousnesses, but when we flee to you, there all is truth and purity and holiness, and our heart finds peace. Above all, we have to battle with ourselves, and we are very much ashamed of ourselves. After many years of great mercy, after tasting of the powers of the world to come, we still are so weak, so foolish; but, oh, when we get away from self to God there all is truth and purity and holiness, and our heart finds peace, wisdom, completeness, delight, joy, victory.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Where is the one who is wise? Where is the teacher of the law? Where is the debater of this age? Hasn’t God made the world’s wisdom foolish?” (1 Corinthians 1:20)

What contempt God has poured upon the wisdom of this world! He has brought it to nothing and made it appear as nothing. He has allowed it to work out its own conclusions, and prove its own folly. Men boasted that they were wise, they said that they could outsmart God; and in order that their folly might be refuted once and forever, God gave them the opportunity of doing so.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Naru of China.

The Naru are an isolated group and mountain ranges make them difficult to reach. It will be challenging and dangerous for missionaries to get to them.

Pray that missionaries would know that Christ is worth it and go to the Naru.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Encounter the Risen King this year*

The cross and resurrection of Jesus aren’t just historical events. They really did happen and they really can change your life. (I don’t just mean they can change your eternity
I mean that they can change EVERY DAY of your life. They really are that big of a deal.)

If you’re looking for a solid resource to help you better enjoy the power of Jesus’ cross and empty tomb, I highly recommend The Risen King, a new book by Charles Spurgeon.

This 40-day devotional walks through the ministry of Jesus, culminating with his resurrection. Each day, you’ll get a few verses of Scripture and a short reflection by Spurgeon.

And let me tell you
this is classic Spurgeon. His ability to help us see the glories of Christ from every word of Scripture is on full-display in these readings, compiled by J.A. Medders from his classic sermons.

This devotional was designed to be read in preparation for Easter, but since Jesus is alive 365 days each year, you can really read it any time. The content is so timeless and powerful.

If your walk with the Lord is feeling stale, this short daily reading from Spurgeon will definitely invigorate it again as he points you to Jesus and calls you to trust his grace every day.

This book was JUST released. To celebrate, the Good Book Company has made it available for 25% off for Pray with Spurgeon subscribers.
