DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, we are longing to draw near; may your Spirit draw us near. We come by the way of Christ our Mediator. We could not approach you, oh our God, if it were not for him, but in him we come boldly to the throne of heavenly grace.

Nor can we come without thanksgivingā€”thanksgiving from the heart, such as the tongue can never express. You have chosen us from before the foundation of the world, and this well-head of mercy sends forth streams of lovingkindness never ceasing. Because we were chosen we have been redeemed with precious blood. Bless the Lord!

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œTherefore, brothers and sisters, since we have boldness to enter the sanctuary through the blood of Jesusā€¦ā€ (Hebrews 10:19)

The Israelite could not pass through the veil which hid from public gaze the glory of the Shekinah, and Jesus Christā€™s humanity was a veil which somewhat concealed the glory of his Deity; but the flesh of Christ having been crucified, the veil has been rent, and now we may come right up to the throne of God without trembling; nay, we may come even with holy boldness and familiarity, and speak to God without alarm. Having such a privilege as this, let us not neglect it. It was denied to prophets and kings in the olden time; but now that it is vouchsafed to us, let us avail ourselves of it, and constantly ā€œlet us draw nearā€ unto God ā€œwith a true heart in full assurance of faith.ā€

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, weā€™re praying for the Takistani of Iran.

Last year, Iran elected a new president, a reform candidate named Masoud Pezeshkian. While many countries, including the United States, have questioned the legitimacy of the election, we have a duty to pray for world leaders.

Pray that President Pezeshkian would defend religious liberty so that the gospel can freely spread in Iran.

The Only Way Our Kids Can Come to God

As Spurgeon has emphasized for us over and over again this week, there is only one way to come boldly into the presence of God: through the blood of Jesus Christ. Itā€™s only by faith in Jesus that we can hope to stand before the holy, holy, holy God and not be destroyed.

Unfortunately, when it comes to our kids, we often live as if other things could bring them to God ā€” our prayers, our rules, our youth pastor, or something else. We need to remember that Jesus is the only way and we need to boldly point our kids to him every day.

If you want a practical guide to point your kids to Jesus every day, check out my series of family devotionals, God Centered Family. These family devotionals cover the entire Bible (every chapter, not just the popular stories) and show how EVERY chapter is centered on Jesus. He is the hero of the Bible, so if you want your kids to trust him, read the Bible to them!

Iā€™m so thankful that God Centered Family has helped so many families point their kids to Jesus in a realistic, consistent, natural, and meaningful way. I canā€™t wait to hear how God uses these devotionals in your home!
