DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Bless the Lord! And when we think of all that you have promised to give, which our faith embraces as being really ours since the covenant makes it sure, we do not know how to utter the memory of your great goodness abundantly enough. We should make our praises equal to our expectations, and our expectations equal to your promises. We can never rise so high. We give to you, however, the praise of our entire being; unto the Lord, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the creator of the world, the redeemed of men, unto the Lord be glory forever and ever, and let all his people praise him. Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he has redeemed from the hand of the enemy.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āGive thanks to the LORD, for he is good; his faithful love endures forever.ā (Psalm 107:1)
The Lord is not to be worshipped with groans and cries but with thanks, for he is good; and these thanks should be heartily given, for his is no common goodness: he is good by nature, and essence, and proven to be good in all the acts of his eternity. Compared with him there is no one good, no, not one but he is essentially, perpetually, superlatively, infinitely good. We are the perpetual partakers of his goodness, and therefore should magnify his name more than any other creature.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Bonan of China.
A majority of the Bonan are Muslim, but 10% are Buddhists. There is real tension between the religious groups. Conversion to Christ will probably be very costly, but it will be worth it.
Pray that God would help his people among the Bonan see that Christ is worth any cost.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Free illustrated storybook for kids*
Our kids donāt just need to know that Jesus is real ā they need to know that heās worth giving everything for. When we read to our kids about the lives of bold Christians who followed Jesus to the end, weāre giving them real heroes to look up to and imitate. I really believe this, which is why Iām so excited that my friends at The Voice of the Martyrs are giving away FREE illustrated books about the life and ministry of Jesusā disciple Thomas.
Many Christians donāt know that this once-doubting man became one of the first Christian missionaries ā spreading the gospel as far as India. (Maybe itās time we give the guy a better nickname than āDoubting Thomas!ā š)
This illustrated storybook is a really encouraging testimony of the power of God to transform his people⦠and then to use us for his glory. It encourages kids to be like Thomas ā to boldly share Christ wherever they are ā knowing that God is with them always.
This book is absolutely FREE (no strings attached, other than the fact that The Voice of the Martyrs might send you their super encouraging magazine too!), so I canāt think of any reason you wouldnāt grab a copy today.
