DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lord, we have another mercy to ask, another burden of our prayer. It is that you would help us to live such lives as pardoned people should live. We have only a little time here, for our life is only a vapor that vanishes away quickly. But we are most anxious that we may spend the time of our sojourning here in holy fear, that grace may be upon us from the commencement of our Christian life even to the earthly close of it.
Lord, you know that there are some who have not yet begun to live for you, and the prayer is now offered that they may today be born again. Others have been walking in your ways for a long time and are not weary of them.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“[There is] a time to love and a time to hate; a time for war and a time for peace.” (Ecclesiastes 3:8)
This chapter gives an accurate summary of how most of our lives are spent. Ours is a checkered life. We are not long in any one state, and we quickly change from one condition to another—which is sometimes better, but sometimes worse. But let us never forget that eternal council chamber where Christ undertook to be our Savior and substitute and, in due time, to die for us. It was with Christ, “a time to love.”
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Abaza of Russia.
This ethnic group of more than 40,000 people is almost entirely Muslim. There are very few, if any Christians among them. Thankfully, there are Christians working among them.
Pray that God would give endurance to the missionaries working among the Abaza.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
See the greatness of Christ and don’t waste your life
This spring, I’ve been reading through Don’t Waste Your Life by John Piper with a group of college students in my church.
Wow. I’m so thankful for this book. It’s more than 20 years old, but its message is more relevant (and counter-cultural) than ever. Piper gives a practical guide for saying NO to selfish living by fixing your eyes on Christ and spreading his love far as the curse is found. This book is personal, practical, and — above all — obsessed with Jesus.
If you want a guide to make the most of your life for Christ, grab a copy today and put it at the top of your reading list. (Plus, this will make a FANTASTIC graduation present.)
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
“When lives are lost in Christ’s honor, there is no waste. This is what life is made for.” — Charles Spurgeon
