DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We come to you and pray that, for Jesusā€™ sake, and through the virtue of the blood once shed for many for the remission of sins, you would give us perfect pardon of every transgression of the past. Blot out, oh God, all our sins like a cloud, and let them never be seen again. Grant us also the peace-speaking word of promise applied by the Holy Spirit, that being justified by faith we may have peace with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let us be forgiven and know it, and may there remain no lingering question in our heart about our reconciliation with God, but by a firm, full assurance based upon faith in the finished work of Christ, may we stand as forgiven men and women against whom transgression shall be mentioned never again forever.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

ā€œFor I will forgive their iniquity and never again remember their sin.ā€ (Jeremiah 31:34)

But how divinely is this promise worded: the Lord promises no more to remember our sins! Can God forget? He says he will, and he means what he says. The Great Lord will not remember our sins so as to punish them, or so as to love us one atom the less because of them. As a debt when paid ceases to be a debt, even so the Lord makes a complete obliteration of the iniquity of his people.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, weā€™re praying for the Micha of China.

The Micha have been a very isolated people for most of recent history, but now many young people are moving to nearby cities. May this increased openness lead to the spread of the gospel.

Pray that the gospel would reach the Micha of China for the first time.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Spend a year with Spurgeon, trusting Godā€™s promises

This week, as we focus on Godā€™s promises, I have to recommend Spurgeonā€™s classic devotional, The Cheque Book of the Bank of Faith, contains 365 readings (one for each day of the year) to help you trust and treasure Godā€™s promises.

Spurgeon frequently said that Godā€™s promises are like checks. And because God is never lacking in resources, his account is always full and his checks never bounce. But if you donā€™t know what Godā€™s promises ARE, you have no way to ā€œcashā€ these checks.

Reading through The Cheque Book in 2025 will definitely encourage you and strengthen your faith.
