DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

We pray for some of your own people who seem to be doing very little for you. Lord, have mercy upon those whose strength runs towards the world and who give only a little of their strength to the spread of the gospel and the winning of souls. Let none of us fritter away our existence; may we begin to live since Christ has died; may we reckon that because he died, we died to all the world, and because he lives, we live in the newness of life. Lord, we thank you for that newness of life.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Jesus did not let him but told him, ‘Go home to your own people, and report to them how much the Lord has done for you and how he has had mercy on you.’” (Mark 5:19)

Now, here is Christmas-day come around again, and they are going home to see their friends. It is not, “Tell your friends how much you have done for yourself,” but “how much the Lord has done for you.” The man who always dwells upon free will and the power of the creature and denies the doctrines of grace, invariably mixes up a great deal of what he has done himself in telling his experience; but the believer in free grace, who holds the great cardinal truths of the gospel, ignores this, and declares, “I will tell what the Lord has done for me.”

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Harzani of Iran.

Iran is the ninth-worst country for the persecution of Christians. Converts are openly imprisoned for merely attending a church. Having the Bible in Farsi (the national language) is illegal. Going as a missionary to Iran will be dangerous, but Christ is worth it.

Pray that God would protect missionaries going to Iran.

Evangelism starts at home

This week, as we reflect on the importance of evangelism, I trust you’re continuing to see the incredible calling that God has placed on ALL of our lives to share the hope of Christ.

If you’re a parent, you have a special responsibility to share Christ with your own children. But, like any other relationship, if we don’t make a plan for HOW we will point our kids to Jesus, we most likely won’t point to him at all.

That’s one of the reasons I encourage every parent to make family devotions a daily habit in your home; so that, at least once every day, you can read God’s Word, celebrate God’s grace, and point your kids to Jesus.

If you want help making family devotions a meaningful daily habit, always pointing to Jesus, I hope you’ll check out my series of family devotionals, God Centered Family. These interactive family devotionals aim to cover every book of the Bible with guides to help your kids understand, apply, and embrace Scripture.

One subscriber recently wrote to me, saying, “I feel like we have a plan each day. My kids are enjoying our study and discussions.” If you want to have a realistic plan to point your kids to Jesus in 2025, please check out God Centered Family.
