DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, we desire this morning to contemplate with admiration your ways toward us. You have put some of us into the furnace. There is no child of yours who does not know something of the heat of the furnace; and we perceive that you are like a refiner to us; the fire is meant to consume our dross and tin; therefore we thank you for it. For all the acts of discipline to which we are subject, we praise the wisdom and the love of our divine Father.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“… for the Lord disciplines the one he loves and punishes every son he receives.” (Hebrews 12:6)

What comfort there is here! Whenever we are under the scourging hand of God, we ought to be very encouraged with the thought that this is a part of the heritage of the children. There are those who spoil their children. God is not one of them. He does not spare the rod, and the more he loves, often the more he corrects.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Tama of Chad.

Education is very poor for the Tama. Local conflicts mean that the children are only educated for 4–5 months each year. Their education is all in French, which they don’t use outside of school.

Pray that Christian teachers would go to the Tama to meet their needs and share the hope of Christ.
