DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lord, deliver your people from every needly worry and care; and, indeed, save us from caring about ourselves! We long for power to roll our burden upon our God, and to sing all day long because we are the Lord’s, and he is ours. “The Lord is our Shepherd, we shall not want. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our life, and we shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Therefore I tell you: Don’t worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Isn’t life more than food and the body more than clothing?” (Matthew 6:25)
“Therefore,” in order that our one Master may be served, we must cease from serving self and from the needless worry which self-seeking involves. Read the passage, “Don’t worry about your life.” We might think about our lives, but we must not give in to anxious worry. Our most pressing bodily wants should not engross our minds. Our life is more important than the food we eat or the clothes we wear. God who gives us life will give us bread and clothing. We should care much more about how we live than how we eat; the spiritual should go before the bodily, the eternal before the temporal. What we wear is of very small importance compared with what we are. Therefore let us give our chief care to that which is chief, yes, our sole thought to the one all-absorbing object of all true life, the glory of God.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Bushi of Mayotte.
This group of 85,000 people has no Christians among them, as far as we know. Living in a small island nation just off the eastern coast of Africa (right above Madagascar), these people will never hear the gospel unless someone brings it from the outside.
Pray that God would send missionaries to the Mayotte.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Women finding freedom from sexual temptation*
Women struggling with sexual sin, you need to be equipped with real strategies for fighting temptation at the root (and in the moment). You need to be trained to put off sin and put on righteousness, even when it’s hard (and even when people around you say it’s fine!)
Molly Bertles has written an amazing book that does this: You Are Not Alone: Biblical Counsel for Women Struggling with Masturbation.
This book is drawn from a deep well. Molly writes from her own experience overcoming sexual sin and her years of counseling other women to freedom.
Do NOT read this book if you want to remain in secret sin (OR if you’re looking for a quick fix), but if you want to…
See real freedom in 2026
Become more like Jesus
Do the hard work (with clear, doable guidance!) of putting off sexual temptation
