DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We long to be released from every worry, even if just for a day! Break the bands of our yoke. May we live above worry every day, casting all our cares onto him because he cares for us, and leaving all in those wise hands that rule the world and can easily handle our small affairs.
Today, gracious Lord, rebuke your children and comfort them; also rebuke and reprove as may seem good to you. Sanctify us for the skies and prepare us for the place which you are preparing for us. Lord, be very mindful of all his sick servants at home, of any that are under depression of spirit, and especially of those who will die soon.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âCan any of you add one moment to his life span by worrying?â (Matthew 6:27)
It is a small matter whether we are tall or short; and yet all the worry in the world could not make us an inch taller. Why, then, do we give in to worry about things which we cannot alter? If fretting were of any use it would have some excuse; but as it does no good, let us cease from it.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Bushi of Mayotte.
Many younger Bushi people, being educated in French systems, are beginning to question their traditions.
Pray that this search for the truth will lead to the truth of Christ.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Because God cares, you can be honest.
On Sunday, I began preaching through the book of Habakkuk â an often-overlooked Old Testament prophet who, in face of real pain and suffering, lashed out at God with a gritty, honest complaint.
Godâs response shows us a lot about his character. And knowing whatâs true about Godâs character will help us to pray with honesty like Habakkuk, and like Jesus.
This sermon walks through Habakkuk 1:1â11, highlighting two reasons that we can pray with honesty, and offering some suggestions on what honest prayer looks like.

âThe Egyptians will know that I am the LORDâŚâ (Exodus 7:5)
The ungodly world is hard to teach. Egypt does not know the Lord and therefore dares to set up idols and even ventures to ask, âWho is the Lord?â Yet the Lord will break proud hearts, whether they will or not. When his judgments thunder over their heads, darken their skies, destroy their harvests, and slay their sons, they begin to discern some of the Lordâs power. There will yet be things done on the earth that will bring skeptics to their knees. Let us not be dismayed because of their blasphemies, for the Lord can take care of his own name, and he will do so in a very effective manner.
The salvation of his own people was another powerful means of making Egypt know that the God of Israel was the Lord, the living and true God. No Israelite died by any one of the ten plagues. None of the chosen seed were drowned in the Red Sea. Even so, the salvation of the elect, and the sure glorification of all true believers, will make the most obstinate of Godâs enemies acknowledge that the Lord, he is God.
God, may your convincing power go forth by the Holy Spirit in the preaching of the gospel until all nations shall bow at the name of Jesus and call him Lord!
Something to think about today if youâre feeling angry about the culture around you: Trust God and know his peace. The Lord can take care of his own name.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
âGod takes more care of us than we take of ourselves. You never heard of a man who numbered the hairs of his head.â â Charles Spurgeon
