DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Remember our land in this time of need. Be pleased by some means to relieve the distress prevalent. Quicken the wheels of commerce that the many who are out of employment in this city may no longer be crying for work and bread. Please make wars to cease to the ends of the earth, or, when they break out, break the slave’s chains with them. Though evil is desperate, grant that Satan may cast out Satan and may his kingdom be divided and fall. Earth desperately longs for your coming. The whole creation groans in pain together until now. Your own people expect you; we are longing until we are weary for your coming. Come quickly, Lord Jesus, come quickly.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“Then Jesus told him, ‘Put your sword back in its place because all who take up the sword will perish by the sword.’” (Matthew 26:52)
A good man’s hand is never more out of place than when it is on the sword-hilt; yet there is always a tendency, even among Christians, to draw the sword from its scabbard. It would have been far better if Peter’s hands had been clasped in prayer. The sword never helps to establish Christ’s kingdom; all that is ever done by it will have to be undone. Brute force will throw down what brute force has built up.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Kluet of Indonesia.
These people have very little access to medical care and are seeing a sharp increase in deadly illnesses like malaria and dengue fever. They need doctors and medical providers.
Pray that Christian doctors will bring medical care and the hope of Christ to the Kluet.

Very Best Bible Stories
As a dad of three, I love Tim Thornborough’s series of Bible story picture books, Very Best Bible Stories. These books are so engaging. The illustrations are packed with details that leave everyone (even the parents) admiring the details and laughing at the visual gags. The story-telling is repetitive in an age-appropriate way (without leaving parents bored out of their minds). These are really fun, engaging books that help your kids know the Bible.
The latest book in this series, Joseph and the Very Strange Dreams just released. It tells the surprising story of Joseph by teaching about opposites. I was thankful to receive a review copy and, trust me, it doesn’t disappoint. Your kids will love to read (and SHOUT!) when they open this book.
FAITH’S CHECKBOOK
Spurgeon’s classic devotional, The Chequebook of the Bank of Faith, contains a promise of God for every day of the year. Pray with Spurgeon Plus subscribers receive the daily readings every weekday.

“He gives sleep to the one he loves.” (Psalm 127:2)
We do not live lives of anxious worry, but of happy faith. Our heavenly Father will supply the wants of his own children and he knows what we have need of before we ask him. We can therefore go to our beds at the proper hour and not wear ourselves out by sitting up late to plot, plan, and create. If we have learned to rely upon our God we shall not lie awake with fear gnawing at our hearts. Instead, we shall leave our care with the Lord, our meditation on him shall be sweet, and he will give us sleep.
To be the Lord’s beloved is the highest possible honor and the one who has it may feel that the greatest ambition could desire nothing better, and therefore every selfish wish may go to sleep. What more is there even in heaven than the love of God? Rest, then, oh soul, for you have all things.
Yet we toss to and fro unless the Lord himself gives us rest itself, not just the reasons for it. Jesus himself is our peace, our rest, our all. In his heart we sleep in perfect security, both in life and in death.
“Sprinkled afresh with pardoning blood,
I lay me down to rest,
As in the embraces of my God,
Or on my Savior’s breast.”
Something to think about today if you’re feeling worried at night: God loves me.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
