DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Father, oh how we rejoice in Christ and you rejoice in him too. We long to glorify him and you delight to glorify your Son. We would set him on high and you have set him āfar above every ruler and authority, power and dominion, and every title givenā (Ephesians 1:21).
Oh Lord, we worship with all our heart, and adore the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Oh, most blessed Lamb of God, with all the saints before the throne, we pay you reverenceācasting all that we have before you. We have no crowns, not even of silver and gold, but as you have graciously given, we will willingly lay all at your feet, content to feel that everything is ours when it is yours, and even more truly āoursā when we have yielded it up to you.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āNot to us, LORD, not to us, but to your name give glory because of your faithful love, because of your truth.ā (Psalm 115:1)
The repetition of the words ānot to usā would seem to indicate a very serious desire to renounce any glory which they might at any time have proudly given to themselves, and it also sets forth the vehemence of their wish that God would at any cost to them magnify his own name. They loathed the idea of seeking their own glory and rejected the thought with the utmost hatred; again and again disclaiming any self-glorifying motive in their supplication.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weāre praying for the Tubu of Chad.
God has commanded his people to āDeclare his glory among the nations, his wondrous works among all peoplesā (Psalm 96:3). This command has not been obeyed, for the Tubu have never heard the good news of Jesus.
Pray that the gospel would be proclaimed among the Tubu soon.

Learning Joy from the Persecuted*
We donāt usually think of our suffering as a gift, but it really is a treasure to suffer for the name of Jesus. And Christians around the world facing real persecution and daily threats of violence think the same thing.
Recently, I read a book sharing the stories of dozens of persecuted Christians, When Faith is Forbidden. I was thankful for this sobering look at the reality of persecution around the world today, but I was really surprised to read the actual words of persecuted Christians. In almost every one of these testimonies, they were clearly thankful for the ways God was at work even in their suffering.
A few examples:
A woman thankful for the āwonderful timeā of ministry she had while in prison.
A widow moved to tears of joy by the fellowship she found after her husband was martyred.
A former addict finding real joy in Jesus (even though it was costing him everything)
A formerly-respected Muslim man who canāt stop grinning about the joy Jesus brings.
I started reading this book expecting to be convicted about the ways I needed to support the persecuted, but ended up being so helped and encouraged by their faith. I was the one being served!
I was thankful to hear that the Voice of the Martyrs would be giving away a free audiobook of When Faith is Forbidden.
This is a powerful resource ā the strong faith of persecuted Christians (made stronger in the furnace of affliction) will strengthen your faith.
I know this audiobook will bless, challenge, and encourage you.
