Give every parent great wisdom

🛐 Daily Prayer: "Take away rebellion from the young; take away impatience from the old."

Pray with Spurgeon

Daily Newsletter from SpurgeonBooks

As Mother’s Day approaches on Saturday, this week, our prayers and Scripture readings each day will focus on children and families.

Helping parents point their kids to Jesus is one of my greatest passions. If you’re a parent looking for practical discipleship resources, check out my other project, God Centered Family.

Next week, we’ll highlight a different theme. Invite a friend to pray with you by sending them this link.

DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord help your people to be right as parents. May none of us spoil our children; may there be no misconducted families to cry out against us.

Lord, help the converted child to be correct in his relation to his parents; help the Christian father or mother to be right in dealing with children, “may they not provoke their children to anger lest they may discourage.” Take away rebellion from the young; take away impatience from the old.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Fathers, don’t stir up anger in your children, but bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4)

Undue harshness, and irritating severity are here forbidden, but holy discipline and religious training are commanded. Fathers must not be ill-humored and morose to their sons and daughters, nor must they exact from them more service than they can render, nor ridicule them, nor show partiality to one above another, nor stint them in necessaries, for this is to provoke them to anger.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Make your life count. Make his name known.*

Christ is King of all the earth. Every second of your life and every ounce of your energy belongs to him. To hold back (“Anything but that, Lord!”) is foolishness and sin.
