DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Give us first a sense of perfect pardon. May there be nothing between any child of yours and yourself, great Father, that could mar the perfection of communion. May we know that you have forgiven us for Jesus Christ’s sake. And as for anything in us that would grieve your Spirit, take it away at once, and then let your Spirit bear witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. Oh, now give us the spirit of adoption. If we are indeed yours, by your Fatherly love to us, we do beg you to breathe into every child of yours a sense of love, a sense of your near presence.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.” (Matthew 26:28)

Jesus suffering, bleeding, dying, has procured for sinners the forgiveness of their sins. Of what sins? Of all sins of every sort and kind, however heinous, aggravated, and multiplied. The blood of the covenant takes every sin away, be it what it may; there was never a sin believingly confessed and taken to Christ that ever baffled his power to cleanse it. This fountain has never been tried in vain. Murderers, thieves, liars, and adulterers have come to Jesus by repentance and faith and through the merit of his sacrifice their sins have been put away.

Meet Spurgeon the Poet*

Spurgeon is known for being a preacher, but did you know he was also a poet? He wrote hundreds of poems in his lifetime, only a handful of which have ever been published. But, thankfully that’s about to change! In just a few weeks, Christ Our All: Poems for the Christian Pilgrim will be released. This incredible book will collect more than 200 of Spurgeon’s poems, many of which have never been published.

These poems are incredible. Reading them has pointed me to Christ and filled me with great joy.
