DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, you have not taken away your blessing from us. We rejoice in this: every day you aid us—glory be to your name! And you provide for all the work of the church and send prosperity to it in every part. Therefore we fear and tremble, because of all the goodness which you make to pass before us; and our heart is jealous with a godly jealousy, lest in anything we should vex the Spirit of God. Lord, grant us to be holy, grant us to be accepted in the Beloved, and Thou shalt have all the praise.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“They shall fear and tremble because of all the good and all the prosperity I provide for it.” (Jeremiah 33:9)

Why fear and tremble? Is not this in part a holy awe of God’s presence? When God has come very near to you in a blaze of mercy, when he has done things that you looked not for; when your mouth has been filled with laughter, and your tongue with singing because of his goodness, have you not at the same time felt overcome by the excess of his favor? Have you not been able to sympathize with Peter when, at the sight of his boat full of fish, he cried “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, Lord.”

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Bagulal of Russia.

As Muslims, the Bagulal believe that they can earn the love of God by keeping the five pillars. They do not know the truth of God’s grace.

Pray that the good news of Jesus would finally reach the Bagulal.

Caring for the wayward? Don’t grow weary of doing good*

As a pastor, I know that caring for straying sheep is uniquely exhausting. Whether you’re in ministry leadership or just living as a faithful Christian, God will use you to call your brothers and sisters back from sin — an important work that we all need to persevere in.

My friends at Harvest USA just put out a really encouraging article, “Be Anchored in God’s Love as You Care for Sexual Strugglers.” If you’ve been feeling weary in ministry recently, this article will really encourage you.
