DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Deliver us from any sort of reliance upon ourselves, whatever shape that reliance might take, and let our faith in you become more childlike every day that we live; for, oh dear savior, there is room for the greatest faith to be exercised upon your blessed person and work. Oh God, the most high and ll-sufficient, there is room for the greatest confidence in you. Oh divine helper, the Holy Spirit, there is now sufficient room for the fullest faith in your operations.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“For by [faith] our ancestors were approved.” (Hebrews 11:2)

Those of the olden time, who were men of noble character, won that character by their faith. All the godly of the olden time had a good report of God and of holy men as the result of their faith.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Jiiddo in Somalia.

The Jiiddo work as farmers, primarily growing bananas. They do not know the God who “causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous” (Matthew 5:45) and has been sustaining their lives for centuries.

Pray that they would come to know the one true God.

Giving your kids a LIFELONG faith in Christ

This week, as we reflect on the theme of faith in God, I’m reminded of my call as a parent — to lead my kids to put their trust in Jesus. As I’ve said many times, I don’t want my kids to make shallow, surface-level commitments to God — I want them to live God centered lives as fully-devoted followers of Jesus. Only God can do this for our kids, and he’s going to do it through his Word.

My series of family devotionals, God Centered Family, is all about long-term faith, not quick results. These devotionals seek to lay three crucial foundations for a life of discipleship:

  • Bible Habits — Cultivate a daily habit of Bible reading that will follow your kids for the rest of their lives.

  • Bible Knowledge — By reading the ENTIRE Bible every three years, you’ll give your kids a thorough biblical literacy that will protect your kids from false teaching and sin.

  • Bible Skills — Don’t make your kids sit through the Bible — train them to engage with the Bible, ask good questions, and dive deep.

In a world of distractions, kids need the Bible more than anything. Parents, you are better equipped than anyone to teach it to them.
