Iām going to share an important update for the future of Pray with Spurgeon on Monday ā donāt miss it!
DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Lord, we come with our confessions, for as often as we adore you we feel how right it would be to cover our faces. The angels have six wings, but we have none. We cannot cover our faces with wings, but we bless your name we have something better than angelic wings; we have the blood and righteousness of Jesus Christ, and with these we cover our faces; with these we cover our feet; and with these we fly out to you now in adoring love.
You have brought us very near to you, despite our sin; and as for our sin, you have cast it as far from us as from yourself, as far as the east is from west. Have you not said that you will throw all my sins behind your back (Isaiah 38:17)? And you have done it.
For all who have looked to the wounds of Jesus, you have given personal cleansing and we are clean everywhere through the water and the blood; and we need not be ashamed to stand even before your presence, holy, holy, holy one, for we have washed our robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
āTherefore repent and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped outā¦ā (Acts 3:19)
Repentance is a discovery of the evil of sin, mourning over the fact that one has committed it, and a resolution to forsake it. It is, in fact, a change of mind with a deep and practical character that makes a person love what he once hated and hate what he once loved. āTurn backā refers to conversion, a turning round, a turning from and a turning toāa turning from sin, a turning to holinessāa turning from carelessness to thought, from the world to heaven, from self to Jesusāa complete turningāwith the result that āyour sins may be wiped out.ā
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
TThis week, weāre praying for the Maba of Indonesia.
When Jesus returns, many nations will gather around his throne (Micah 4:1ā2). The Maba cannot come to Jesus because they have never heard of him.
Pray that Christ would be preached among the Maba.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
A devotional to help you run from sin and cling to Christ
Much of the United States is blanketed in snow this week, which Scripture puts forward as a picture of our forgiveness. A fitting image after a week of confessing our sin!
One resource thatās been helpful as Iāve studied Godās Word and sought to enjoy the wonder of his grace is Whiter Than Snow: Meditations on Sin and Mercy by Paul Tripp. This book features 52 short devotionals (one for every week of the year) on Psalm 51. This is an incredible resource to help you remember the horrors of your sin and the wonders of Godās amazing grace.
You could read the book over the next few months with just five minutes a day, or read one devotional each week for the next year. I canāt think of a better way to spend your time than reflecting on Godās mercy towards broken sinners like us.
I hope youāll buy a copy and enjoy meditating on Godās unending mercy with me.
