DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Restore the sick; and those we know who will die soon, the Lord be solemnly with them. May they depart out of this world full of eternal life. May the great sea of God come up in floods into the river of their being so that though it begins to run low from its natural sources it may be filled from the supernatural depths of God’s indwelling presence. May those who are appointed unto death feel a sweet agreement with the appointment and find heaven begun in their hearts while they still linger here below.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“When the men of that place recognized him, they alerted the whole vicinity and brought to him all who were sick. They begged him that they might only touch the end of his robe, and as many as touched it were healed.” (Matthew 14:35–36)

Wherever he is, the great Physician is sure to find patients. The people asked little, they begged “that they might only touch the end of his robe;” but they received much; for they were made perfectly whole. In no case was there any failure; in every instance the work was complete. Their humble request was founded upon a precedent, was urged by earnest spirits, and was accompanied with practical sympathy, therefore it was not refused. How glad that whole region was made! All that were diseased had become happy witnesses of the Lord’s healing power.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Ashtiani of Iran.

The Ashtiani are herdsmen and farmers in a country with limited space for agriculture.

Pray that God would supply all of their needs.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Insulted for Christ? He is with you.*

If you are insulted for the name of Jesus, you have a wonderful companion in Christ. But Christ is not our only companion in suffering. We also share in fellowship with our brothers and sisters around the world who live under the weight of extreme persecution. We will see these brothers and sisters in glory one day, but we share in fellowship with them even now. That’s one of the many reasons we need to read their stories.

With this kind of reality in mind, I recently read the book Hearts of Fire: Eight Women in the Underground Church and Their Stories of Costly Faith.

This is a powerful book that tells the story of eight women who shared in Christ’s sufferings when hostile forces attempted to snuff out their faith and silence their evangelism.

Each of these women is a POWERFUL example.

My friends at The Voice of the Martyrs wants to mail you a free copy of this book so that you can hear these true stories and enter into deeper fellowship with our persecuted brothers and sisters.
