DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Bless our country. Lord, in mercy, would you avert the horrors of war from us. Grant that, by some means, peace may be continued and war come to an end where it still rages; and oh, that the policy of truth and righteousness may once more be taken up in this land, and our nation be forgiven its great national crimes.
We ask you once more that you would, by some means, cause peace to be re-established throughout the earth. Grant that this nation may not be drawn into war. We have been foolish once over it, grant that we may not be so again; but oh, let your kingdom come without the use of the sword. Oh, angel of war, will you not rest? Oh, sword of the Lord, put yourself into your sheath and be still; for the sake of the great Prince of Peace we ask it.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âYou are going to hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not alarmed, because these things must take place, but the end is not yet.â (Matthew 24:6)
These words might be applied to almost any period of the worldâs history. Earth has rarely had a long spell of quiet; there have almost always been both the realities of war and the rumors of war. There were many such before Jerusalem was overthrown and there have been many such ever since; and there will be many until that glorious period when ânation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.â
This prophecy ought both to warn the disciples of Christ what they may expect, and wean them from the world where all these and greater sorrows are to be experienced.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Kluet of Indonesia.
There have never been any Christians, missionaries, or churches among the Kluet. They have no Bible or Christian resources in their language. Christ died for people âfrom every tribe and language and people and nationâ (Revelation 5:9) but hasnât yet received the reward of his suffering from the Kluet.
Pray that the gospel would go to the Kluet and they would believe the good news.
