DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Our God, we come to you by Jesus Christ who has gone within the veil on our behalf and ever lives to make intercession for us. Our poor prayers could never reach you were it not for him, but his hands are full of sweet perfume which makes our pleading sweet with you. His blood is sprinkled on the mercy seat, and now we know that you always hear those who approach you through that ever blessed name.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: ‘I will set one of your offspring on your throne.’” (Psalm 132:11)

The Lord is not a changeable being. He never turns from his purpose, much less from his promise solemnly ratified by oath. He never turns. He is not a man that he should lie, nor the son of man that he should repent. What a rock they stand upon who have an immutable oath of God for their foundation!

We know that this covenant was really made with Christ, the spiritual seed of David. Christ therefore sits on a sure throne forever and ever, seeing that he has kept the covenant, and through him the blessing comes upon Zion, whose poor are blessed in him.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

A simple read to help you (and others!) love your church more

Whether your church is thriving or in a season of difficulty, we all need to grow to love our local church family more. This is one of the most practical things you can do to grow in godliness.

And a great resource for helping you along the way is Love Your Church by Tony Merida. This is a new book that outlines eight great things about being a church member. I’m so thankful for the book’s faithfulness to Scripture and practical application.

Because the book is short, it’s a great resource to give to someone else to help them grow their own love for the church. If you know someone who you long to see more connected to the church, I encourage you to grab a copy of this book for them.

The book is simple and short. I promise you, if you will read this book and apply it’s lessons to your own local church, you will grow in love for your church family and grow in godliness as a result.
