DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Oh God, you are our God and we will exalt you. You are our fathers’ God and we will exalt you. You are the God of Abraham, and of Moses, and of Jacob. You shall be called the Lord, the God of David, the God of the whole earth. Our soul magnifies you, for you have revealed yourself to us more clearly than to the patriarchs and kings of old. In the face of Jesus Christ we see your glory. You have made him to be the exact image of your person; and we worship and adore you in him, magnifying with all our hearts the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, the Triune God of Israel, to whom be blessing for ever and ever! Happy are the people who call you their God. Happy are we who have, by your mighty grace, been born the children of the promise, the true seed of Abraham, seeing we have believed, and are thus the children of believing Abraham.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“You know, then, that those who have faith, these are Abraham’s sons.” (Galatians 3:7)

Race has nothing to do with this matter. God is not the God of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles. Here is a new race whose distinction is not that they were born of blood, or of the will of the flesh, or of the will of man, but by the will of God. This is the token by which they are known: They believe God, and it is accounted to them for righteousness—even as it was accounted to Abraham.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Idaksahak in Mali.

Insufficient rain in recent years has made life difficult for the Idaksahak. They need help from the God who sends rain.

Pray that the Idaksahak would thank the God who made them and all things.

RECOMMENDED RESOURCE

Spurgeon’s invitation to be born again

This passion for the lost permeated every aspect of Spurgeon’s ministry, and it led him to write a book — All of Grace. A dear friend of mine has updated this classic book in contemporary English to make it more accessible for modern readers.

Reading this book will remind you of the amazing grace that saved you and caused you to be born again. This book is an incredible explanation of the wonder of God’s grace that will leave you amazed and eager to serve. As you read Spurgeon’s appeal to the lost, you will be equipped to share with the lost people you know.

This book is also a great resource to read with a non-Christian you know. Buy a copy for someone you know and ask to discuss it together. Reading All of Grace will bless you in so many ways. I hope you’ll grab a copy of this updated edition.

LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON

“There is no way of seeing God until the heart is renewed by sovereign grace.” — Charles Spurgeon
