DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
We worship the Father, we worship the Son, we worship the Holy Spirit with all the powers of our being. We fall prostrate before the amazing and glorious throne of the infinite majesty of heaven. The Lord accepts us because we offer these praises in the name of Jesus.
Oh Savior, accept these poor praises from us. They come from those you love, and just as we value any little things that come from those we love, so do we feel that you will accept the thanksgiving, the reverential worship of your people, redeemed ones who are a people near to you, whose names are graven on the palms of your hands, of whom you are the active head and for whom your heart beats true and full of love even now.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated on a high and lofty throne, and the hem of his robe filled the temple.” (Isaiah 6:1)
Isaiah was awestruck by this vision of the glory of the Lord. It was a sight such as few eyes have ever seen. Isaiah was never actually in the holy place, for he was no priest and could not stand there. In a vision he saw all this glory, and it was a vision that must have remained in his memory the rest of his life. The holiness and the glory of God struck him at once.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Bunu of China.
With a population of 425,000, the Bunu are the largest people group in China without any churches. There are no Christians among them and no Bible in their language.
Pray that God would send missionaries to the Bunu.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
Be amazed by our great God.
This week as we focus on the greatness of God, I’m reminded that, almost always, our view of God is much too small. The Bible reveals a ravishing, glorious, fear-inspiring, awesome picture of the God who created all things and sits in the heavens. If you want to better understand God's glorious infinity, read None Like Him by Jen Wilkin.
In each chapter, Jen unpacks one of God's incommunicable attributes — the attributes that make God unlike us — and discusses how knowing each of these attributes of God will change our lives. Each chapter exposes our shortcomings and shows how God is gloriously more powerful than we are (and why that's really good news). This is biblical, rich, glorious theology.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
“Even before creation, God sat as a king on his throne, forever to be worshiped.” — Charles Spurgeon
