DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Oh Lord, we worship with all our heart, and adore the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Most blessed Lamb of God, with all the saints before the throne, we offer you reverence—casting all that we have before you. We have no crowns, not even of silver and gold, but all that you have graciously given, we willingly lay at your feet, content to feel that everything is ours when it is yours, and even more truly ours when we have surrendered it over to you. We wish we could live for Jesus wholly, that there were no distractions, no secondary channels into which the stream of life could flow, but that as he is all to us, so all of us might live for him alone.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
“The twenty-four elders fall down before the one seated on the throne and worship the one who lives forever and ever. They cast their crowns before the throne and say, ‘Our Lord and God, you are worthy to receive glory and honor and power, because you have created all things, and by your will they exist and were created.’” (Revelation 4:10–11)
These elders spent their time in joyous song. This is the occupation of saints before the throne; be it yours, brothers and sisters. Let us, as God’s redeemed, sing with all our hearts, and let us enlist others in the song.
Some of you perhaps are good at groaning; perhaps some of you are mourning and murmuring today; lay these things aside; take up your proper vocation, and now strum the strings of your harp, magnify the Lord, let the day of jubilee come to your spirits. Saints of God, rejoice, in your God rejoice exceedingly.
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, we’re praying for the Afshari of Iran.
The Afshari are a semi-nomadic tribe — they live in different places in the summer and winter. Sharing the gospel with them will be challenging.
Pray that God would prepare missionaries for the unique task of sharing Christ with the Afshari for the first time.

“My eyes favor the faithful of the land so that they may sit down with me. The one who follows the way of integrity may serve me.” (Psalm 101:6)
If David spoke this way, we may be sure that the Son of David will think the same way. Jesus looks out for faithful ones and he fixes his eyes upon them to observe them, to bring them forward, to encourage them, and to reward them. Let no true-hearted man think that he is overlooked; the King himself has his eye upon him.
There are two results of this royal notice. First we read, “that they may sit down with me.” Jesus brings the faithful into his house, he sets them in his palace, he makes them his companions, he delights in their fellowship. We must be true to our Lord and then he will reveal himself to us. When our faithfulness costs us most, it will be best rewarded; the more furiously men reject us, the more joyfully will our Lord receive us.
Next, he says of the sincere people that they “may serve me.” Jesus will use for his own glory those who scorn the tricks of manipulation, and are faithful to himself, his Word, and his cross. These shall be in his royal entourage, the honored servants of his majesty.
Communion and usefulness are the wages of faithfulness. Lord, make me faithful, that I may dwell with you and serve you.
Something to think about today if you’re feeling overlooked: The King himself has his eye upon you.
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
