DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Blessed be the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our soul would take a flight out of our bodies for a moment up to the gate of pearl. It is open, and we pass along the golden streets, and we behold your glory, too excessive for the eye. We hear in spirit the eternal song, and we bow with all the redeemed by blood.

We have no crowns to cast at your feet, oh God, but all that we have, and all we are, we ascribe to you, “By the grace of God I am what I am.” We have no words, we can only in the silence of our spirit adore, and again adore, and magnify and extol the Lord who lives forever. Accept our poor worship through the mediator Jesus Christ.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“Truly I tell you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do. And he will do even greater works than these, because I am going to the Father
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever.” (John 14:12, 16)

In consequence of Christ’s going to the Father, and the Spirit of God descending upon Christ’s disciples, they are enabled to outdo their Master in some forms of holy service. For instance, some of them brought more to the faith than Christ himself had done during his lifetime, and so realized the fulfillment of this promise.

Understand How the Trinity Changes Everything

This week, we have prayed about and rejoiced in the doctrine of the Trinity. Most Christians have a basic understanding of this doctrine, but we shouldn’t be content to stay in the shallow-end of the pool — we should seek to dive deeper and deeper into the fullness of God.

A great book to take your next step in understanding the Trinity is The Deep Things of God by Fred Sanders. This is an incredibly accessible book by one of the world’s foremost experts on Trinitarian theology. The book will walk through how the Trinity relates to other doctrines. You’ll walk away impressed at how important the Trinity is and amazed at how glorious God is.

I know this book will encourage you, so I hope you’ll grab a copy today.
