DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)
Our Father in heaven, it is an intense joy to us to call you by that endearing name, for it is no mere empty title. We feel the spirit of adoption in us âwhereby we cry, Abba, Fatherâ (Romans 8:15). We feel the nature of God in us, which has been given us by the Spirit of God, the quickening, the renewal, being born again to a living hope.
Lord, we thank you, that we are your children by regeneration as well as by adoption, that we have been made partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption which is in the world through lust. And we revel in the thought that it is given to us now to become the sons of God, any who believe in the name of Jesus, which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Amen.
VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)
âIf you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask him.â (Matthew 7:11)
The point is, not only that God gives, but that he knows how to give. If he were always to give according to our prayers, it might be very injurious to us. He might give us that with which we could do hurt, as when a father should put a stone into a boyâs hand; or he might give us that which might do us hurt, as if a father were to give his child a serpent.
God will do neither of these things; but he will answer us in discretion, and with prudence will he fulfill our desires. You know how to give to your children; how much more shall your infinitely-wise Father, who from heaven sees all the surroundings of men, give good things to them that ask him?
PRAY FOR THE NATIONS
This week, weâre praying for the Bilala of Chad.
The Bilala live in villages, ruled by a local chief and elders, who help settle disputes and navigate relationships with outsiders.
Pray that the gospel would spread to every Bilala village and that village elders would be open to missionaries.
RECOMMENDED RESOURCE
FINALLY: A discipleship course that helps women get honest about sexual sin, while finding real restoration from the grace of Jesus.*
Sexual purity isnât about âsaving yourselfâ for your husband; itâs about BEING SAVED by Jesus from the sin that so easily ensnares us.
Often, when we talk about sexual sin, we seem to forget everything we believe about Godâs grace. Thankfully, Godâs grace is still at work, even in the darkest moments of our foulest sins.
If youâre a woman struggling with sexual sin, I know a great resource to help you in the fight. Itâs a free video series/discipleship course called Transforming Love.
Itâs all about remembering Godâs grace, even in our worst sin and most tragic suffering, and moving forward with the strength grace supplies.
This course will offer you first steps towards heart-transforming long-term change, not just short-term behavior modification, by understanding where sin/behavior comes from (the heart).
Hereâs what to look forward toâŚ
Six 30-minute video sessions.
Includes a free downloadable participantâs guide
Teaching WHY we sin (so that we can pursue long-term change), not just stopping sinful behavior.
Use it in a group, one-on-one, or on your own
Remember the transforming love of Jesus in your darkest sin and suffering.
This course is REALLY powerful and itâs 100% free for you!
(And If youâre a woman who does NOT struggle with sexual sin, maybe invite women in your church to go through the course with you. Just imagine what God will do as you create a safe space for women to be honest and experience grace together.)
LAST WORD FROM SPURGEON
âBecause God is a Father full of gentleness and tenderness, sin against him is exceedingly sinful.â â Charles Spurgeon
