DAILY PRAYER (BY SPURGEON)

Lord, help us to know the power of your resurrection. Today, may we rise from all our natural apathy, and sluggishness, and thoughtlessness, to have a tender, fleshy heart that shall feel deep regret on account of sin and a profound sympathy with Christ in his griefs on account of sin.

Lord, help us to leave the world behind us, considering it to be a grave in which we must not rest; for Christ has resurrected us, though we were dead in trespasses and sin. May we rise to the newness of life and as we have been buried with him in the likeness of his death, let us rise with him in the likeness of his resurrection. Oh, we long for the newness of life! Have you not said, “Behold, I make all things new”? Lord, let everything be new in us, and everything living, vividly living, quickened into fullness of life, life more abundantly.

Amen.

VERSE OF THE DAY (COMMENTARY BY SPURGEON)

“God, create a clean heart for me and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” (Psalm 51:10)

He does not say, “Make my old heart clean;” he is too experienced in the hopelessness of the old nature. He would have the old man buried as a dead thing and a new creation brought in to fill its place. No one but God can create either a new heart or a new earth. Salvation is a marvelous display of supreme power; this kind of work can be done only by omnipotence. The affections must be corrected first or all our nature will go astray. The heart is the rudder of the soul and until the Lord takes it in hand, we steer in a false and foul way.

PRAY FOR THE NATIONS

This week, we’re praying for the Odienne Jula in Côte d'Ivoire.

Almost entirely Muslim (95%), the Odienne Jula will be difficult to reach with the gospel. However, there are many Christians in CĂ´te d'Ivoire and the country allows missionaries to enter and share the gospel freely.

Pray that God would open the eyes of Christians in CĂ´te d'Ivoire to the urgent spiritual needs of the Odienne Jula.
